It is with the greatest honour that The Purcell School announces His Majesty King Charles III will be retaining Patronage of the School.
The news, which marks the first anniversary of Their Majesties Coronation, follows the thorough analysis of over one thousand organisations of which The late Queen, The former Prince of Wales and The former Duchess of Cornwall were Patrons.
The former Prince of Wales became Patron of The Purcell School in March 1985 and has bestowed the School with continued and invaluable support for the last 39 years. In 1998, The former Prince of Wales formally opened the School’s campus in Bushey, Hertfordshire, and in 2003 accepted the UNESCO Mozart Gold Medal for Outstanding Contribution To Arts Education on behalf of The Purcell School.
The Purcell School is Britain’s oldest specialist music school and exists to provide young musicians of exceptional promise and talent with the best possible teaching and an environment in which to fulfil their potential, irrespective of their background. In a previous message sent to the School, The former Prince of Wales commented that “The Purcell School is an extraordinary institution with a very special place in my heart” and “it is my particular wish that this provision continues to flourish and grow with the nurturing of these very special young people at the centre of its work.”
Paul Bambrough, Principal of The Purcell School, remarked: “The whole school community is both honoured and delighted that His Majesty The King has retained his patronage of the School. To receive such patronage acknowledges the vital and important contribution The Purcell School makes to the musical life of the nation and recognises the high quality of our work.”
