It is with great pleasure that The Purcell School announces world-renowned violinist, conductor and arranger Dmitry Sitkovetsky as their newest Patron.
Dmitry Sitkovetsky holds a venerable position in musical society, having made a compelling impact on every aspect of musical life throughout his career of over four decades. He is a prolific recording artist and globally celebrated violinist and conductor, who is further heralded as a musical creator, transcriber, facilitator and educator of note.
As a violinist, Sitkovetsky has performed with the world’s leading orchestras and at an abundance of prestigious festivals. His career is documented in an extensive discography, which not only reflects the impressive breadth of his repertoire but highlights the legendary maestros with whom he has worked, such as Sir Colin Davis, Mariss Jansons and Yehudi Menuhin. Sitkovetsky’s career as a conductor is equally profound, and has seen him work with pre-eminent orchestras around the world, establish the New European Strings Chamber Orchestra and serve as the Music Director of the Greensboro Symphony Orchestra for over two decades.
Sitkovetsky is also in demand as a jury member, musical expert, educator and transcriber. He is the President of the Jury of the George Enescu International Violin Competition and a member of the jury for the International Fritz Kreisler Violin Competition and the Concours Musical International de Montréal. He has arranged over fifty works of major repertoire by composers such as Bartók, Beethoven, Brahms, Haydn, Schnittke and Shostakovich, with his revered orchestral and string trio versions of Bach’s Goldberg Variations taking on iconic status.
The patronage comes at an important time for The Purcell School. Principal, Paul Bambrough, commented: “It is a tremendous privilege to welcome Dmitry Sitkovetsky as the School’s newest patron. It is thrilling to have the opportunity to build a meaningful and lasting relationship with a musician of such international renown and astonishing talent. Dmitry‘s recent visit to the school left a profound and lasting impression on all of us and I know that both current and future students will benefit from Dmitry‘s profound wisdom and experience. Our String department is one of the finest of its kind anywhere in the world and to be supported and guided by a violinist of such significance and distinction will only inspire and encourage our young players to even greater heights”.
Of his new appointment, Sitkovetsky says: “It is with great joy and enthusiasm that I accept this wonderful honour to be a new Patron of The Purcell School. It marks a new chapter in my professional life – a chance to share my good fortune of having grown up with the giants of the music world, with the most exciting young talents at the best music school in the UK”.
