In Touch With Nature

The Composition Department’s special project, In Touch with Nature, lead by Junior Composer-in-Association Michael Small reached its culmination on Monday (18/3) evening with the premiere of the eight new works inspired by nature, written specially by the Purcell composers, performed brilliantly by the student violinists, violists, and pianists. Guest Artist Fenella Humphreys had this to say about the project: ‘It was such a brilliant thing to be part of, and wonderful to see the dedication, care, respect and support from composers and performers.’

The project began with a trip in October 2023 to Tring Natural History Museum and Heartwood Forest – and many ideas and motives in the resulting works began life ‘in the field’ on that day. Michael Small and the Composition Department would like to thank the Purcell community for the support and assistance in making this concert such a memorable and unique experience for all involved.
