London Schools Symphony Orchestra at The Barbican

Purcell brass players Cameron McDonnell (horn) and Hannah Mbuya (tuba) are both members of the London Schools Symphony Orchestra.  Under the baton of Edward Gardner, the orchestra played works by Rachmaninov, Grieg and Nielsen on the evening of Wednesday 7th January at London’s Barbican Hall.  The weighty orchestral textures, particularly in Rachmaninov’s second symphony, benefited from Hannah’s tuba-playing; there was a memorable solo from Cameron as principal horn in the LSSO at the end of Nielsen’s ‘Helios’ overture.
